Default old scrolls

Well, not exactly scrapbooking, but at least it is a "paper" craft. (Trying to do that whole board-wide challenge thing).

I made some "old scrolls" for the kids to take home with them to help them remember our lesson last Sunday. It was on Jesus' boyhood. Part of the lesson was on how he didn't have school books or computers like we do to learn from - they had scrolls. So I made each of the kids their own "scroll" to take home.

So, first, you gather the supplies

And do the painting (staining) process

And burn the edges

spray with clear acrylic sealer

glue the scorched dowels on (to roll the scroll on)

roll them up and tie with jute twine

glue a magnet on the back, and they are all done.

With the magnet on the back, they can be hung on the fridge tied closed, or hanging open so they can see the scripture on it.

The scrolls were a big hit - with the kids and with the parents.

That is really cool, gremlin. Those kids are very lucky to have such an enthusiastic teacher.

Very nice. I'm sure the kids got a good lesson from them.

And we really do need to add to the scrapbooking section. We need something just for papercrafting.

The kids are fortunate to have such a dedicated teacher gremlin. You put a lot of work into the scrolls. And they turned out awesome. Nice job!

I like doing stuff like this. It's amazing what a person can do with everyday household objects (such as paper and paint and dowels).

They turned out great, especially the burnt edges. I agree, the kids are blessed to have you as a teacher.

They look great. Please 'splain the painting ageing process. I gotta make treasure maps for Cub Scouts. I've been crumpling paper and soaking it in strong tea and coffee. They don't look as weathered as yours.
