Default photograph mosaic...?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this. But it's paper and gluing related..
So the project is 2 canvases. They both have quick pencil drawings, one of me and one of my hubby. We're looking at each other, so that when they're hung on the wall, they'd be diagonal and mine would be a bit lower than his..
Anyhow, the plan is to cut up photos and glue them to the canvases.
But i'm having some trouble picking which idea to go with..
1-Take photos that look a lot like us, the right colors of my wedding dress, my hair, his suit and tie etc. and make it realistic...
or
2-Black and white photos, but pick something either the backgrounds or something of our image and make it color to highlight it..

Any suggestions? Anyone ever do something like this?...
Thanks!

I've only really done this with magazine clippings so there was a lot to pick and choose from. if you want to go with color, one suggestion would be to take a whole bunch of photos and then play with the hue in a photo editing program so the photos have an over all single color to them. That way you can make them any color you need them to be. Also, then you can re use photos and just make them a different color... does that make sense? Just a thought.

I'd be really interested in seeing how they turn out

Thank you, I will keep that in mind. Lately I've been leaning toward black and white with a color background to really make the black and white pop..
My sister first did something like this when she was in a high school photography class. Hers was the best and most complicated, a lot of the other students did larger pieces of photos. She had used an image from a magazine and covered it with photos, using black and white..
I've wanted to do it since then, and I had kinda thought about this.
If I go with black and white, I think I may just take existing photos I have and process them to black and white and have a whole bunch printed..
This project will take me a while though, but I think it'll look cool when I get it done.

yeah, converting to black and white is easy enough. Do you have any pictures of your sisters? It sounds pretty cool.

I'm not sure.. I'll have to ask her. She had done a Calvin Klein add with a little boy sitting on his father's shoulders. But, that was about 8 years ago or so LOL...
I'm thinking I may go with a red background and then both of us black and white... That'll prolly be the easiest.

just as a side note... the red might be too overpowering unless you are totally in black and white. I think the greys that are in b&w photos would cause the whole thing to kinda wash out and make your image have less of a pop. that's just my 2cents with how I'm envisioning it in my head. I guess you could always fade the pictures so the red is more muted.

hmm.. I'll have to keep that in mind. Its hard, the image doesn't have like me holding flowers or something of that sort, so I don't really know what I'd pick as the colored thing in each image.. Maybe I'll soften the red as I get closer to the image?... Start toward the top with a deep red and as I get closer to our heads and necks soften it to a pink? That may also add a bit more depth to the actual image?

that sounds really pretty! What about coloring your eyes and lips too (or something like that) DH has majorly blue eyes so I know that for me I would want that to be a part of the mosaic.

I think I'll start playing with the background first.. I need to get pictures of one shade and then change them to the shades I want to soften the red as I go.. Once I have that done then I think I'll focus on the actual image of us.. This is gonna be a long project, but I really want to get it started!!

or you could convert any picture to b&w and then make it what ever shade you want... unless that's what you were saying progress pics whenever possible would be awesome!
