I would say start with a small ready-made kit first. That way you will have just what you need - the fabric, embroidery floss, etc. - all there and ready for you. Usually kits like that have instructions included, but if they're not explanatory enough, you could always look at your library for a beginner's cross-stitch book. That's how I always teach myself something new.

I am a cross stitch fan although I do have to admit that I have been so consumed with other projects that I have not stitched in awhile which is a shame. I actually think that I want to pick something up to work on so that I can teach my oldest daughter. I think stitching is very therapudic and a good stress reliever unless I get myself into a harder project. I perfer smaller quicker projects as to a project that is going to take me awhile to finish because the chances are that I am not going to finish it. Glad to see we have others that are interested!

Default cross-stitching is great

Hi,
I am a brand new member, but I have been cross stitching for over 20 years off and on. I also suffer with some Arthritis, but I currently do not take anything for it. I have done many projects for friends and family. I tend to give them all away . I enjoy working on birds (owls) and aquatic photos. I am currently finishing the back-stitching on one with lots of birds at a feeder and a second project that is for my son. Has Winnie the Pooh and pals with his birth information on it. I think I will keep a few to hand on my walls this time. You should see me "trying" doing it with a 29lb dog and a 17 month old son in my lap... It makes things interesting

I adore cross stitch. I've been bitten by the stitching bug lately. All I want to do is cross stitch.

Have you checked out craftbubble yet? There are many cross stitchers there, and I have made a few good friends there, as well!
