Do you ever get frustrated?
So I am in hobby lobby buying a pattern for scrubs and the necessary fabric and notions.
For one set of scrubs the supplies cost me almost $30, not including the pattern. The fabric was on sale but it still would almost be cheaper to buy them.
I appreciate the satisfaction that comes with making your own clothes, but I still get frustrated sometimes. What say you?

I felt this way when i made the kids halloween costumes. fabric for my DD's costume cost $30 + at least i saved on my DS's costume. I could have saved the money and just bought her costume.. But it still came out cheaper..
Maybe you could find fabric online for cheap???

When I was young my mom would sew all our clothes because it was cheaper than purchasing them. Now, it seems that sewing has become a "hobby" and is an extra so the price is much higher. Not only that but the stuff we buy pre-made is made in china and they buy their fabrics by the truck load getting a huge discount.

I would use the argument that I was creating a quality garment, but I can't even do that - sometimes my stuff doesn't turn out any better than the junk from the bigbox . It is fun having my DD pick out the fabrics for her clothes, but it's definately more of a hobby than a money saver!

I had always wanted to design and make my own clothes to not only make it personalized just for me to have a better fit than what can be bought premade at a store but to save money.... well, turns out the later was just a hopeless dream because it's not cheap.

That's why I don't make all of our clothes. I wish I *could* save money by making all of our clothes but I just make a few things here and there and then I make/sell cloth diapers.

The only way I am making it seem worth while, is that I have expensive taste in kid's clothes LOL! My friend has a friend whose dd's wear clothes from Oilliy, Baby Lulu, etc... and she lets my oldest girl wear them, then back to her dd, then back to my dd... this stuff is the cutest EVER, but simple T-shirts run $40 or more... so I use them as patterns, and adjust here and there to make fun clothes for my girls for about the cost of buying target clothes, but with the flair of the higher end designers. At least that's how I justify it to myself

As soon as I get better at sewing to actually make clothes I plan on buy stuff cheap at thrift stores when I can for the sole purpose of using the fabric for something else and save a little money.

I do understand. That is why I do these things (oh and by the way, "What say you?" Total Cosby Show flashback LOL)
*Buy designer prints thru coops only. Takes a long time to come in but is worth it.
*buy patterns ONLY whent hey're 99c on sale!
*scour the net for as much freebies as possible
*try to upcycle things u already have
And i hate sewing clothes so I only do the simplest of things when we do clothes! LOL Good luck!
