I feel the same way about fabric that many of you have already pointed out...I get frustrated when I go to the fabric shop and find the prints I want for $7+ PER YARD...and the fact that making your own clothing is more often than not way more expensive than just buying it.

Lately most of my sewing projects have only required small amounts of fabric so I've been able to get away with finding scraps here and there and the "roll ends" that you can buy for cheap in the craft store. I also buy fat quarters/quilting fabric on eBay cheap (search then sort by ending soonest, I always snag auctions that are ending within a minute or two for 0.99 cents plus a couple bucks for shipping).

Also, find things at thrift stores you can take apart and use the fabric from (clothes, sheets, etc).

Oh...and post on your local FreeCycle...around my area (and it's a SMALL FreeCycle group members-wise) I've been able to find several people who had leftovers and scraps that they were happy to give me for free. One woman I've been corresponding with recently is a professional seamstress and does alterations so has lots of extras...she's even throwing in buttons and other things just because all of that normally gets thrown away. I'm picking up a big bag of stuff from her next week

You got that right! A couple cashmere sweaters for $1 each at the thrift store makes a lot of knitted/crocheted Christmas presents if taken apart properly!!!
