I posted this in another thread earlier but I plan on doing some marathon sewing today and am hoping for some answers quickly lol

I have to figure out what's wrong with my sewing machine...of course now it starts to act up! The needle thread keeps popping out while I'm sewing and I have to re-thread it constantly. I've messed with the tensions, re-threaded everything including the bobbin over and over, changed the needle, tried different needle sizes, and I'm about to smash the thing to bits and pieces.

What happens is that I'll be sewing along, and then suddenly the needle thread immediately over the needle begins to loosen dramatically, and then a few stitches later, the thread goes flying out of the eye.

The thread is not breaking. The machine is not jamming...the thread just goes flying out randomly and I can't figure it out and it's driving me crazy!!!

Ideas?

It sound like the needle might not be threaded correctly. You know, you can have your machine for a while and somehow, you just start threading it the wrong way. Most modern machines are threaded from front to back. Also check to see that you are putting the needles in correctly. You might have to have it checked out be a qualified repair-person.

Nope definitely threading the machine correctly (and front to back)...I've threaded over and over and over and over!!!

Needle is in right too.

I'm thinking I'm going to have it looked at. Oddly enough, I didn't have a single problem with it last night even though I didn't do a thing to it.

Check your bobbin and bobbin carriage that it is clean and the the bobbin thread is wound on correctly ( I wound a bobbin backwards once). To me it sounds like the thread is not being locked with the lower thread bobbin, which would make it come unthreaded on the top.
And just a side note, depending on what the age of your machine, cleaning a machine is somewhere between $80 and $100 where I live. (made me decide to get a new machine)
Just a thought.

To do a basic "tune-up" on sewing machines in my area is between $40. and $75. if no other parts are involved. They adjust tension clean (in case there is some jammed up thread) and oil everything. I had that done last year. However replacing a machine would depend on what machine you have. I have an old Singer machine which was made by the original Singer. It is from the early 1960's and I wouldn't get rid of it just because it would cost $80. to fix it. As a matter of fact, about 3 1/2 years ago, I paid $94. to repair it which was for a tune-up and I also needed a new power cord plus some other stuff.

Do you have a little slot that your thread is supposed to go down in before coming up to the metal bar thingy? Make sure your thread is off to the right of the little metal guide piece in there. That has happened to me. If it isn't to the right of the guide, the thread will get stuk inside the machine and pull right out! HTH!
