Default Seams

I need some help on seams. I am working on some boxers for hubby. I don't have a serger but will often use an overlock stitch for fabrics that unravel easily. In this case I would rather not because I'm afraid overlocked seams may be kind of irritating. I have also done french seams, which I LOVE, but I tried them in a pair of boxers and didn't like it much. The french seams were too bulky through the crotch.

On storebought boxers they use lovely flat seams. I'm sure there is a name for that kind of seam but I have no clue what it is. Does anyone know what that seam is and how to do it? Can anyone put a tutorial together for me or point me to a tutorial?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure this is how the flat seam is made... I don't know the technical name.

sew the pieces together with a straight stitch and then pull out the double eye needle (I got one with my machine, you may need to go out and purchase one). It looks like this. iron the seam to one side and pin. then go over the seam with a running stitch with the double needle making sure the outside of the fabric is facing up. You'll need two spools of thread, one for each eye.

i hope that helps a bit

I believe you are referring to a flat felled seam. Here are some links that may help you: http://www.sewneau.com/how.to/flat.felled.seam.html
This site shows how to make it with the twin needle that was suggested: http://www.craftstylish.com/item/313...flat-fell-seam
and here is a video showing you how to do it:
