Default Stuffed toy help?

Tribbles! My friend and I are looking to make some homemade tribble toys and while most of it seems to be pretty easy -- a piece of fur, some stuffing, some quick stitching and we're done -- we're a bit at a loss as to how to make the dang things purr.

See, tribbles... purr. And rumble. And generally make weird noises (that's why Kirk up there looks so confused! well. one of the reasons..).

The noise is pretty similar to what you can hear in those stuffed cat toys (toys shaped like cats, not toys for cats) that rumble/purr. Does anyone know what IS in there?

So if anyone could give us a tip or another idea on how to make tribbles purr... that'd be so helpful. Thanks!

I don't know how they do it, probably one of the little things you find in those noisy Christmas toys where you have to squeeze Rudolph's paw.

Maybe you could google "annoying toy noise makers"? Although, most companies probably wouldn't use the word 'annoying' to describe a toy they're trying to sell.

How many are you thinking of making? Craft stores sell tiny voice/sound recorders that are so small you can slip one into the design of a greeting card.

They're cool. You record the sound (purring) and pull the tab out to make the recording permanent.

And welcome to the Craft Forum!

Thanks, Barb! I'm probably going to make only two or three, and that voice/sound recorder idea sounds fantastic... I might look into that!

What a great idea! I wish I could help more.
I remember the cats you are referring to. "Kitty kitty kittens" they were called. My daughter had at least one. There was a marble or something that rolled around in it's head that sounded like a purr when you would give it's head a pet. If you are super creative, you might be able to MacGyver something. A marble inside something hollow... a plastic easter egg, maybe? The interior of the egg or the marble would have to be textured I would imagine...
I know that wasn't super-helpful, but I posted my rambling thoughts just in case it gave you a good idea!

Hubby suggested that you go to Build-a-bear and get the recordable one and take it home and record that snip from the show. I didn't think of that at first..HAHAHAh

Tribbles!! This is such a great idea! I remember watching this episode a really long time ago - those things multiplied so fast!

Here is a mini voice recorder I found online (I don't think build-a-bear lets you just buy the voice inserts.) There might be cheaper ones at a craft store like Michael's or Jo-Ann's though.

You could just play a record the sound from tv or the internet and put it inside the tribble!!
