I used the instructions in Joy's Waldorf dolls, which is to crochet a cap like you would a "hat" for your doll, then sew it in place... make sure you leave "ear" shaped edges to give it a more natural look. Then you take a piece of cardboard that will make the hair the length you want it and wrap the yard around and around the cardboard in a single layer across... your cardboard should be as wide as the front edge of the cap to the back of the head... then you put a piece of tape on the "top" covering the "hair"- this will be your "part" and cut the bottom edge... place the hair laid out flat on a piece of tissue paper and sew down the middle of the tape to hold the hair together (be sure to use hair colored thread).. then remove tape and tissue and make two more layers like this.... the first layer you sew on all over the head, second you sew on at the part and the mid line (about eye line) and the third layer you sew just down the part... Hope that makes sense- hooking it onto the cap (like a latch hook style) would seem to work as well, but isn't the traditional way (but I have been tempted to try it myself as the methods with the sewing don't always look as natural.)
