Default Valentine's Kids Crafts?

Suggestions?

I know our two girls would love to do some creative crafting leading up to Vday. What are your thoughts?

You beat me to it! I was thinking about this on the drive home this morning.

For those with kiddos in school, do you make anything/have the kids make anything for treats/gifts for the class?

DLTK is a website I sometimes look at to get some ideas: http://www.dltk-holidays.com/valentines/index.htm

I can't remember where I saw it, but it was an idea to use leftover candy canes to make a heart for Valentine's...maybe if I google it I can find it again.

I can't think of anything off the top of my head. I'll ask my daughters for ideas. Am I remembering right? Are yours 7 &9?

We just moved and we have a really nice big wall between the bedrooms and kitchen that I want to decorate. I think I'm going to make a big heart out of craft paper and let them go to town with tissue paper, markers anything out of the craft box. I've got some stuff coming from Oriental Trading for them to do.

I also want to start something new each month. I'm going to make a cut out of a tree and laminate it. Then this month I'm going to cut out some hearts and have them write/tell me to write things they love. Next month I want to do shamrocks and have them think of lucky things. It's a play off a project my friend does with her kids at thanksgiving, and it makes nice keepsakes.

Oh and they're making their own valentines. I got some cute stuff to do them at Michaels, so they'll have fun with that.

I'm looking forward to my girls wanting to craft.
t shirts are one craft I can't wait to do with them. I remember how proud I was when I got to wear a shirt I made as a kid - even if all I did was add puffy paint.
Valentines Day is one holiday that lends itself to a t shirt that can be worn over and over - since the main decoration is hearts. Unlike other holidays like Easter etc where the main decoration is not something you'd wear on a shirt any day.

I love the tree idea. I think I'm going to steal that idea and use it with my kids! Thanks for the idea.

we make a heart shaped strawberry cake (either out of a form or just cut a round one into a hear), frost it with pink strawberry frosting, and then get all the red and pink and white toppings we can find and let the kids go to town decorating it. it's fun

Also, a use for the leftover christmas candy canes... if you position them right you can make a heart out of two of them. attach to card and you've killed two birds with one stone... got rid of the candy and made a cute card for someone.
