Default How to Make Kool Aid Playdough

Here's a great idea that kids love ... make homemade play dough but not any old play dough its is made with Kool aid... kids love it when they add the water the color of the clay comes out and it smells so great. I use to premix all the dry ingredients place in a plastic jar add instruction's and sell it at craft fairs. For a great fun twist use some of the magic kool aid. and after its all made and they are done playing for awhile just store it in the plastic jar.. make sure its cooled enough after stiring in the water before they get hands in there to help kneed it . Let us know if you try it and how they like it. P.S. little ones may want to eat a bite or 2 but its all ok nothing in it that can hurt lol. Here's the recipe.

KOOL AID PLAY CLAY

Check out this recipe for making colored clay using kool aid. Materials Needed:

  • 1 Cup Flour
  • 1/2 Cup Salt
  • 1 Package Unsweetened Kool-Aid
  • 3 Tbsp Oil
  • 1 Cup Boiling Water
Instructions:
Mix together the flour, salt, and Kool-Aid. Add the oil and the boiling water. Stir the mixture until well blended. Remove the dough from the bowl and knead until it forms a soft dough.

squiggles60, welcome to CraftForum.com! I'm so glad you found our site and for this great post. I hope you don't mind that I made it into it's own thread. It's such a great idea I didn't want it to get lost in another thread. I'm excited to read more of your posts.

We've made homemade play-dough before with our kids but never with Kool Aid. That's a great idea. Looking forward to trying it.

Thanks!

Thank you Nathan for moving the post to its own thread. I don't mind at all. And any homemade clay last longer then store bought well at least around our house it did and when making the plain clay dough and i have that recipe to i will look it up. But when making it you can divid it up into smaller amounts and add food coloring. Zippy bag it and its good for a long time to come.

I could never handle the smell of the store-bought play dough.

Found the cooked reg. play dough this is a great recipe to and it makes much more for so much less then what you pay for in the store.

Cooked Play Dough

3 cups flour
1 cup salt
6 teaspoons cream of tartar
3 cups water
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
Food coloring

Mix flour, salt, and cream of tartar in a large saucepan. Blend water and oil together in a bowl. Add to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens. Add several drops of food coloring until you get the right color. Cook for about five minutes. Take the play dough out of the saucepan and put it on a cutting board or counter and knead for a few minutes. Add flour if it's too sticky.

This play dough should last around three months if you keep it sealed in an airtight container or plastic ziplock bag. It's so smooth and fun to play with when it's still warm.

Note: you can of course divide this into small batches and color each one. Just store in a zippy bag when not in use. or a butter dish with a lid but the zippy bags keep it fresher longer in the dish with lid it will start to dry out after a few weeks.

Interesting. Does the Kool Aid play dough have a different texture then the cooked playdough?
