Default Ocean in a bottle

This is a fun project.

You'll need:
a clean plastic bottle with a tight fitting lid
blue food coloring
water
cooking oil

Pour enough cooking oil into the bottle to fill it about 1/3 of the way.

Add a few drops of the blue food coloring.

Fill the rest of the bottle as full as you can with water.

Put the lid on and tighten it.

Lay the bottle on its side and gently raise and lower one end.

Now you have an ocean in a bottle!

Enjoy!

Barb

I've never made one of these, but I have read that you should not shake them vigorously. Apparently enough shaking does mix the oil and water somewhat. I know you said "gently" Barb, I just wanted to emphasize that point.
I wish I had a small bottle now.....

I think I'll try it with all the kids tomorrow.

I wish I had a tiny boat to put inside that would float on the water.

If it works out, I'll post a picture or two.

I wish I knew where to find little boats and fish to put in it.

That's good to know. Thanks!

Did you have any little boats or fish to put in them?
