I do a lot of paper airplanes with my kids. We keep the ones we have made previously, and then on days we are in the mood for paper airplane fun, we go out on our front steps and fly them down to the ground. It always provides at least an hour of entertainment. (Then I get tired of running up and down the stairs.)

I have 3 paper airplane books. We have a round one we do, but it doesn't look like the picture. It is just round like a cylinder.

Our newest paper airplane book has things resembling the space shuttle, and sputnik, and all the other manned and unmanned spacecraft. We are eager to get started on it. I'll try to post some pix when I get them.

Well, no pix yet, but I wanted to post again to say that we worked on one paper airplane for an hour and a half. It was supposed to "fly" right up a string 10 feet. Perseverance paid off, and we finally saw it sail right up to the ceiling, where we had anchored a string to a plant hanger.

It eventually turned out great, but we had to work on it to make it happen. Sometimes it is like that.

I'm glad it worked out for you. The kids probably learned a lot from it. What kind of paper do you use? I think we used line paper and computer paper.

Barb,
We used plain old printer paper, but I found a whole box of cardstock paper at the thrift store for $0.79 and I plan to use it for the next paper airplanes we make.

Up next, a replica of the Space Shuttle. I've been trying to get to it for a week now, but life keeps intervening.

And I do think the kids learned a lot from the trial and error it took to get the last one to fly. The success was definitely worth the effort.

Wow! The Space Shuttle? That should be a LOT of fun. The card stock should be perfect for that. I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures.

Here are some pictures of the paper airplanes we have made since Christmas. The first one shows my DD with the rocket type plane we made. This is the one that took us an hour and a half to get it to fly. The second one is one that uses a straw to propel it. The last 3 pictures are the ones from the Space Shuttle replica we made. The planes looked really cool and the kids loved them, but unfortunately, they didn't fly very well at all.

Maybe this week we will have time to make some more. I'll post pix if I get a chance to make more airplanes.

I've made like 10 of these things now and i can not for the life of me get this thing to do anything but plummet to the ground. I even threw one off the porch to see if that would help nope. Is there a special trick to get these to work?
