Default For your budding magician.....

I'd like to start a thread on magic tricks that kids can do!
If any of you have simple 'fool 'em' tricks to share, please do.

The first time they can fool Mom or Dad, they'll likely be addicted, so return to this thread often!

One that comes to mind, (especially if you have a glass top table) is to take a round pencil that rolls easily, place it on the table and tell your spectator (kid) that you can move the pencil from UNDERNEATH the table by utilizing natural magnetism. Place the pencil horizontal in front of you, slide one finger away from yourself a few times under the table to "build static electricity", and, amazingly, the pencil will follow your finger as it moves away under the table!
Kids are amazed and will try for amazing lengths of time to try to get that darn pencil to move for THEM!!!
(of course, you don't let them notice you puckering your lips and blowing the pencil away from yourself on the third or fourth pass as they're eyes are locked on the pencil and your finger moving under the table....)
Share the trick/solution with them and then watch the fun begin as they start showing their brothers, sisters, cousins, Grandparents etc.

More to come!

This will/may require Mom and/or Dad's help.
"Chosen Playing Card from sealed poptop can!"
Get a "safety cutting" can opener, (they cut from the side, not the top)
Find a normal "soup sized" can with a pop top lid.
Duplicate decks of cards. (same backs, same fronts)
Grab a micro-torch for resealing. (or strong glue)
Be sure the bottom is able to be cut with a normal can opener,
not the one piece "molded" kind like on the new soup cans. Nut cans or Chow Mein Noodle cans work well.
Soak can until label falls off. (if you intend to torch it back together)
Remove bottom of can. Leave nuts or noodles inside.
Insert a card, or cards of your choice.
Grab your handy dandy micro-torch and some solder and seal the bottom back up tight.
Sand with fine grit sandpaper to smooth solder seam. Or you can just glue it back on, but it will look more 'tampered with'.
Print out one of the graphics below (or anything you wish) on peel off adhesive paper.
Attach to can. (or re-glue original label back on)
As to how to make the chosen cards disappear and then to reappear inside
the sealed can (held by spectator?) is up to you! I can recommend some ways if you PM me.

spread a deck of cards, let Mom or Dad pick one, but tell them NOT to let you see it! (don't worry, YOU don't need to know what it is!)
at this point glance at the card on the BOTTOM of the half you intend to place on top of the other half deck in your other hand. let's say it was the Jack of Hearts. this card will now be on top of THEIR card. have the deck cut in halves and tell them to place the card back in the middle of the deck. Place the Jack of Hearts down on top of their card. cut the cards a few times to mix them up a bit. (but only in half!, no triple cuts or it could mess up.) now start turning over the cards one by one until you see the Jack, then turn their card over on to the pile and stop there! Without paying any attention to their card, act as if you're ready to turn over the NEXT card and say " The next card I turn over will be your card." Of course, they see their card on the table already and figure you're a pretty dumb magician and usually take the bet. Instead of flipping the next card, reach down and turn THEIR card face down!

That sounds like fun! Do you think a 5 year old could learn that one?

Here's one I learned when I was a kid.

You need at least 3 people.

To make this easier to explain, I'm going to use the names Jed, Ed and Fred.

You will need to lay 10 cards on the table in the pattern shown on the #10 card.

In the top right hand corner you will have a #10 card. It doesn't matter what suit you use.

Jed and Fred know how the trick works.

Ed doesn't.

Fred says, "Ed, come here. I want to show you a trick. Jed is going to go in the other room and close the door. While he's gone, you're going to point at one of these cards. When Jed comes back, he's going to tell you which card you chose."

Fred then tells Jed, "Go in the other room and don't peek."

Ed points at the 4 of clubs (♣).

Fred tells Jed to come back in the room and says, "I'm going to touch each one of these cards and then you have to tell us which card Ed chose."

Fred begins by placing his finger on the 9 of hearts (♥) and then gently touches all of the cards one after another.

Here's the trick. When Fred touches the #10 card, he specifically touches it on the icon that represents the card that Jed touched. Doing this shows Jed which card Ed picked.

Jed pretends that he's not sure which card it is, but picks the correct card.

(let me know if something doesn't make sense or could be explained in a simpler way for kids to understand)
